Sudan Summary

It is going to be impossible to articulate all that the Lord blessed us to see and be a part of in the last short days.  We are so thankful to Jesus for the priveldge of going and being in Southern Sudan as a family once again.  What a love gift it is from Him to just see His creation, His handiwork!  We visited new places and people as well as getting re-acquointed with some old friends.  The pictures will walk you through some of the journey of our last week...

Meeting with one of the chaplains at Lui Hospital, Sushten...also a leader of Episcopal Church of Sudan

The Salvation Tree it is now called, originally was the tree the slave traders kept people under, until there were enough people captured to march them out of the bush to the coast!
This is where, the Frasers the first missionaries to the area of Lui began preaching Jesus to them!
He is buried just yards from here having died in Lui after about 15 years of faithful service...
They began a hospital, schools and the church!

Bishop Bismark Avokaya of Mundri Diocese is a good friend of our family.
What a blessing to meet him finally in his home.
We had met in Arua a few times as his daughter was in school there.
The time we got to hear from his heart was some of the best moments on this journey.
He asks YOU, the church of the west to pray not for peace during these trying times, but for perseverance for himself and church leaders as well as praying for the spiritual formation and growth of those in the church in South Sudan.

Going to visit Bishop Bismark was a bit more complicated than we imagined...
our "taxi" got stuck in the mud and we ended up footing through the church compound in the mud and then got back in and drove out to the bishops' home where he was waiting to meet with us.

Billy spoke in hospital chapel the two mornings we were in Lui.
People were really interested in his Bible stories and seemed to appreciate the unique mode of teaching not often found in the church.  Pray with us for eternal fruit from those mornings of ministry.

From Lui, we flew to Rumbek to meet with Bishop Isaac. An AIM AIR pilot named Jerry flew in to the Mundri airstrip to pick us up and take us on to our next meeting.

Bishop Isaac and Billy shared an Ethiopian meal in Rumbek town.
Billy learned of the Bible school that needs staff and heard the bishops concerns while they enjoyed their tasty lunch!

We had a short stop over in Tonj as the airstrip in Werkok where we were scheduled to go was too muddy to land.
We got to meet people working in a ministry called In Deed And Truth.
Check out their website at indeedandtruth.org and pray for their ministry.
They were such a neat encouragement to us and it will be exciting to see how the Lord partners our hearts together in future ministry.

A quick stop over in Akot to re-fuel the plane allowed us to re-connect briefly with some of the men Billy was able to be with at the training last October in Southern Sudan.
This is Pastor Paul, who came out to greet Billy.

More from the Sudan journey to follow soon...
For now we are in Kampala where Billy is in meetings today and we head home early tomorrow morning.
Thank you for your prayers and love while we were in Sudan.
Jesus was so faithful and met us on each step of the journey.

It was so helpful to read the prayer request for Sudan from the bishop...now I know how to pray more effectively for this area.
