Our resident first grader gladly sounded out the letters found on our treasure hunt and recognition was faster than a camera flash! B-O-Y! We are having a baby brother!!!
And as all family's of four girls might do...we had a dress up formal dinner at the girls' request to celebrate that evening...this little man is already seriously celebrated.
Among the Lugbara it wasn't appropriate to talk about a new baby before it's birth, but here in Scotland the common question is "how are you keeping, Joanna?" It's fun to have people acknowledge the new life we are hopeful and rejoicing in already...and I am keeping quite well...thank you for asking!
Another wee difference is the medical care!
In Uganda I had midwife friends that would come and drink a cup of tea with me and check the babies heartbeat using a pinard horn (like Call the Midwife) and also check my blood pressure. I really looked forward to these chats and checks...now...I have seen a different person every time I have gone to the doctor which is a LOT more often than my friends would come visit!
I have heard Baby Blake's heartbeat over fetal monitors and have had two ultrasounds. In Uganda we could pay about two dollars and have an ultrasound in town any time the mood struck! We won't see this guy again until he joins us around 29 November.
I'm sure delivery may be a bit different too. As well as the next few years...I haven't dressed babies much at all for a mom (or mum) of four! My girls were warm in the African sun but already friends have shared blankets and sweaters for newborns! I have a lot to learn.
Thank you for your prayers and love!

Wow, dear friends! We are so excited for you. Things have been a bit hectic around here, so we have not been checking Facebook, etc. very often. This is such great news! Please keep us posted, and we will certainly be keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. This little boy is so blessed to be joining a family like yours. Love from all of the Van den Heevers.
