It's my JOB to hang out with these cuties!
It's also my business to teach them a thing or two.
It's my calling in life right now to disciple them to walk in Christ's love and life.
It's a high and holy calling.
I fight it a few days each week...but I know it's right and
I know He's loving and leading in spite of the teacher/mom/lady in charge!
Some families homeschool because they are convicted it is the only Christian response to parenting and child rearing.
I have friends who homeschool because they believe their kids will learn stacks more than they ever could in a school room.
Others have special needs and special skills they want to focus on.
There are hundreds of more reasons I am sure as to why this unique family life style is chosen or forced upon various groups of people.
We currently homeschool simply because we are living a life in transition and trying to be a place of stability for these four angels. And we believe for today, this is God's best for our family.
So... we go forward...however imperfectly and with lots of room for growth, we press on.
In this past school year we have had TWO girls learn to read.
We have had TWO girls complete a math course for a grade above their current level.
So far this school year we have read well over 5,000 pages aloud as a family.
We have LOVED swimming lessons.
We have explored parks and castle ruins we never even dreamed existed before we came to Scotland!
We have had picnics on some beautiful beaches.
We have attempted the violin and piano and failed at both so far! :(
We have started and failed to complete a thousand art projects.
We have cried countless tears of frustration, grief, hurt, confusion and we have LAUGHED.
We have laughed til our sides ached and the tears were in pools at our feet!
We have enjoyed one another!
We have begun to learn a new culture together!
We have memorised more and more "do not fear" verses because the fear keeps chasing us all.
We have learned to trust in new ways.
More forts have been built than we have studied in history class for sure.
More countries where girls are not free to study or learn have been discovered than we care to count.
Prayers have been prayed for months over each continent.
Nations and neighbouring lands have been explored and wept over.
Handwriting has often been wept over!
It hasn't always been pretty but it's been real and it's been incredibly special and sacred time.
Do I ever wish my kids were off to a school building where someone else was in charge for most hours of most days?...sometimes.
Would I trade this time for anything in the world?...never!
